On A Veterans-Focused Swing, Surrogates for Reverend Warnock Stopped In McDonough
Atlanta, GA – On Saturday, veterans, military families, community leaders and other Georgians showed their support for Reverend Warnock at a Veterans for Warnock rally in McDonough, part of the Warnock campaign’s “Working for Georgia” bus tour.
Veterans for Warnock celebrated the recent passage of the Warnock-backed PACT Act which was signed into law after months of advocacy by Reverend Warnock. The new law will expand access to health care for nearly nearly 350,000 Georgia veterans exposed to toxic burn pits during their military service. The PACT Act is part of Reverend Warnock’s extensive record of fighting for Georgia’s veterans and military families, which includes, pushing back against President Biden’s proposed cuts to the Savannah Combat Readiness Training Center to preserve critical military jobs and securing more than $2.5 million in federal funding to help homeless Georgia veterans.
Hear what surrogates are saying about Reverend Warnock’s work for military heroes:
Surrogates met with Georgia veterans and voters in McDonough.
Master Sergeant Patricia Baisden, U.S. Army (Retired): “The PACT Act is going to allow me the opportunity to go back to the VA and say look, I served in Kabul, Afghanistan. I gave you my time … I was there next to your toxic exposure burn pits, but when you took out my thyroid, you didn’t compensate me…There’s millions of vets … coming back but they ain’t receiving any justice, and I think if we re-elect Senator Warnock we might have that fighting chance to continue on fighting to get to where we need to be.”
Stockbridge Mayor Anthony Ford, Colonel, U.S. Army (Retired): Reverend Warnock “was raised by an Army veteran. So was I. My father was a World War II and Korean War veteran. I’m the oldest son, and he said, ‘son, you’re going to go to college and you’re going to go in the Army and serve your country … So when it comes to Senator Warnock…without a doubt I support him — and you should too … because he has veterans in his eyesight and he wants to do all he can for veterans.”
Henry County Chairwoman Carlotta Harrell: “My family has a long legacy of veterans. My father served in the Korean War, my brother served in Desert Storm, I have many aunts and uncles that have served in the military, and that are still serving in the military. A lot of times we forget about those families that are left back home waiting for them to return. When they do return, a lot of the issues that they have when they return are not getting the help they need. Well, I’m standing here today before you to say that I am endorsing Senator Raphael Warnock … because we need someone such as him to continue to fight not only for veterans, but for everyone.”
Douglas Cloud, First Vice President of American Legion Post 516: “I was drafted into the United States Army in 1969, drafted. That means I didn’t have a choice. I didn’t run from it, I went, I served, got out honorably. I want to thank Senator Warnock for what he is doing for veterans. There should not be one veteran in this country who is struggling for housing. There should not be one veteran in this country who is struggling for medical care. There should not be one veteran that is struggling for anything.”
