“Georgians Are Gonna Get It Right”: Reverend Raphael Warnock On The Daily Show With Trevor Noah In Atlanta

Atlanta, GA — Last Night, Reverend Warnock appeared on “The Daily Show” with host Trevor Noah. On the show, Reverend Warnock discussed his accomplishments working for all Georgians in the United States Senate and what’s at stake in this important election. Georgians can vote early through Friday, November 4, 2022.

Key Points: 

Reverend Warnock: I think it’s about who’s ready and who’s fit to serve, to represent them in the United States Senate. And I believe that at the end of the day, Georgians are gonna get it right.

Trevor Noah: There are many Georgians who have said “I love you, Senator. I love what you’re doing and what you represent. But I feel like in this moment, the Republicans are promising something that is better or different.” How would you respond to the people who say that to you?

Reverend Warnock: Well in my case, my opponent hasn’t promised a thing. I mean, think about it. I mean that, and I’m not being flippant. I want you to think—what has he actually promised to do? While we are paying record prices at the pump, at the pharmaceutical counter, at the grocery store, they are literally experiencing record profits, right. And so, the question is, who’s gonna do something about it? Who cares about ordinary people? And I take this job very seriously. You know, it’s a real honor for your neighbors to say we want you to represent us and in high office. And so that’s the reason why I capped the cost of insulin to no more than $35 of out of pocket costs. That’s the reason I capped the cost of prescription drugs so women and men like my 84 year old mother wouldn’t have to choose between buying the medicine they need and the groceries they need. That’s why I remain focused on the people. 

Reverend Warnock: What I’ve endeavored to do is not to be a Senator who used to be a pastor, but a pastor in the Senate, which is why I return to my pulpit. I preach here every Sunday, and continue to do the important work. So I hope the people of Georgia give me six more years to keep doing this work.

• Trevor Noah kicked off a week of taping “The Daily Show” in Atlanta on Monday night.

• “Georgia is the epicenter of America’s elections right now,” Noah said. “It decides everything.” One such race, he said, was the contest between the Democratic senator Raphael Warnock and his Republican opponent Herschel Walker, who he was shocked to report are currently “neck and neck.”

• Crossing the aisle: Warnock spent 10 minutes with Noah, noting his ability to pass bills that are bipartisan including capping insulin prices and working with Sen. Ted Cruz to build a highway between Georgia and Texas. He also said he is still a pastor and goes to the pulpit at Ebenezer Baptist Church every Sunday.
