As the Warnock Campaign continues consolidating support across Georgia and nationally, more local leaders back the Reverend’s movement
Atlanta, GA – Today, the Warnock for Georgia Senate campaign announced a series of new endorsements from the state legislature’s Augusta and Athens delegations. Their support highlights the growing momentum for Warnock’s U.S. Senate campaign across the Peach State and comes on the heels of endorsements from members from Columbus and Albany, on Thursday. With today’s announcement, Warnock has earned the most support from Georgia’s Democratic state legislators of any candidate in the special election. In addition to Augusta and Athens, the campaign previously announced endorsements spanning the metro Atlanta, Columbus, Albany and Valdosta delegations, as well as Savannah, where he grew up.
Warnock, who is running to represent all Georgians in the U.S. Senate, has centered critical issues that these local leaders have championed, such as education, fair wages, equality, health care and criminal justice in his campaign.
“I am truly humbled and beyond grateful for the support of Representatives Frazier, Nelson and Frye, who have exemplified leadership and grace. From Augusta to Columbus, Savannah to Athens, we are building a movement that fights for working people and families,” said Reverend Warnock. “I look forward to working alongside them as we fight for the soul of our nation, and to put the interests of Georgians first.”
The following local leaders and elected officials support Warnock for Georgia:
State Representative Spencer Frye, District 118, Clarke County
State Representative Sheila Nelson, District 125, Richmond County
State Representative Gloria Frazier, District 126, Richmond, Burke Counties
Warnock launched his campaign for the U.S. Senate in January 2020, and independent analysts at Cook Political immediately moved the race to one of the most competitive in the nation. Reverend Warnock outraised every candidate – Democrat and Republican – for the special election in the first fundraising quarter this year. He’s also earned support from leaders across the state including Stacey Abrams, Congressmen John Lewis, Sanford Bishop, Hank Johnson and David Scott, Ambassador Andrew Young, Jason Carter and countless local officials. In addition to robust support from Georgians, he is backed by groups such as Planned Parenthood, End Citizens United, Democracy for America, the Congressional Black Caucus as well as Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley and multiple United States Senators, including Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris, Kirsten Gillibrand and Cory Booker.
About Reverend Warnock
Reverend Raphael Warnock grew up in Kayton Homes public housing in Savannah. Fourteen years ago, he was chosen to serve as Senior Pastor at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, the former pulpit of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He is only the fifth Senior Pastor in the history of the church and the youngest pastor ever selected to serve in that position. Reverend Warnock believes his service does not stop at the church door, and has been an advocate to expand health care coverage and to ensure hardworking Georgians can make a living wage. As Senator, Reverend Warnock will bring to Washington the concerns of struggling Georgia families who wonder why no one is looking out for them, and focus on fighting for quality, affordable health care, for the dignity of working people who are paid too little as our government works more for Wall Street, and to make sure every voice is heard.
