As the Warnock campaign continues consolidating support, more Georgia leaders are backing the Reverend’s movement
Atlanta, GA – Today, the Warnock for Georgia Senate campaign announced the endorsement of businesswoman and former U.S. Senate candidate Sarah Riggs Amico. The endorsement comes as Warnock begins to surge in support, evidenced by his recent volunteer kickoff with over 400 supporters and Q2 fundraising success, when he outraised the rest of the Georgia Senate special election field combined.
Warnock has centered policies Riggs Amico advocated for a focus of his campaign, including health care and voting rights. Riggs Amico is a businesswoman and leader who ran for Lieutenant Governor alongside Stacey Abrams on a platform of expanding access to affordable health care, increasing investments in education, and tackling income inequality.
“Reverend Warnock has been a champion for justice and equity here in Georgia. In the Senate, he’ll work to make health care affordable and build an economy that works for everyone. As our nation rises to meet the unprecedented economic and social challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic – and the recovery that lies ahead – I have faith that Rev. Warnock will make a real difference for hard-working Georgia families, and I am proud to endorse his campaign,” said Riggs Amico.
“Sarah has been a fierce advocate for working families in Georgia, and I am honored and humbled to have her support in this race. She has modeled the fight for justice and equality in our state, and I will continue to stand beside her in that fight on behalf of Georgians,” said Reverend Warnock.
Warnock launched his campaign for the U.S. Senate in January 2020, and independent analysts at Cook Political immediately moved the race to one of the most competitive in the nation. Reverend Warnock outraised every candidate – Democrat and Republican – for the special election in the first fundraising quarter this year. He’s also earned support from leaders across the state including Stacey Abrams, the late Congressman John Lewis, Ambassador Andrew Young, Jon Ossoff, Teresa Tomlinson, Jason Carter and countless local officials. In addition to robust support from Georgians, he is backed by Planned Parenthood, End Citizens United, Democracy for America, the Congressional Black Caucus as well as Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn and multiple United States Senators, including Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris, Kirsten Gillibrand and Cory Booker.
About Reverend Warnock
Reverend Raphael Warnock grew up in Kayton Homes public housing in Savannah. Fourteen years ago, he was chosen to serve as Senior Pastor at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, the former pulpit of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He is only the fifth Senior Pastor in the history of the church and the youngest pastor ever selected to serve in that position. Reverend Warnock believes his service does not stop at the church door, and has been an advocate to expand health care coverage and to ensure hardworking Georgians can make a living wage. As Senator, Reverend Warnock will bring to Washington the concerns of struggling Georgia families who wonder why no one is looking out for them, and focus on fighting for quality, affordable health care, for the dignity of working people who are paid too little as our government works more for Wall Street, and to make sure every voice is heard.
