Congressmen Sanford Bishop, David Scott, Hank Johnson Endorse Reverend Raphael Warnock for U.S. Senate

Atlanta, GA – Today, longtime champions for working people and Georgia Congressmen Sanford Bishop, David Scott and Hank Johnson endorsed Reverend Raphael Warnock, who is running to represent all Georgians in the U.S. Senate. This announcement follows the previous endorsement of fellow Congressman and civil rights icon John Lewis, and highlights Reverend Warnock’s long history of advocacy for health care, the dignity of work, and other issues, such as reproductive rights.

“Reverend Warnock is a true servant leader and has fought for Medicaid expansion and other issues that are critical to our rural and urban communities for years,” said Congressman Bishop, Georgia’s 2nd District. “I’m proud to endorse him in the race for US Senate and I am looking forward to having him as a partner and champion in Congress fighting for all Georgians.”

“As a man of God and faith, Reverend Warnock has dedicated himself for many years to the struggle of advancing justice. The Reverend is just the type of leader we need in Washington today. He has my full support and I hope my fellow Georgians will join us in this movement.” said Congressman Scott, Georgia’s 13th District.

“Reverend Warnock has committed his entire career to the service of others and helping them reach their greatest potential. He’ll continue that great work as our next US Senator,” said Congressman Johnson, Georgia’s 4th District. “I look forward to helping elect him this November and working together to battle climate change, protect choice, and fight for working people.”

“Representatives Bishop, Scott, and Johnson have been leaders in our state and advocates for working people in Washington for many years,” said Reverend Warnock. “I am humbled to have their support in this campaign and in this movement as we fight for all Georgians.”

Warnock launched his campaign for the U.S. Senate in January 2020, and independent analysts at Cook Political immediately moved the race to one of the most competitive in the nation. Reverend Warnock outraised every candidate – Democrat and Republican – for the special election in the first fundraising quarter this year. He’s earned the support from leaders across the state including Stacey Abrams, Congressman John Lewis,  Ambassador Andrew Young, and Jason Carter as well as End Citizens United, Democracy for America, and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.

About Reverend Warnock

Reverend Raphael Warnock grew up in Kayton Homes public housing in Savannah. Fourteen years ago, he was chosen to serve as Senior Pastor at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, the former pulpit of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He is only the fifth Senior Pastor in the history of the church and the youngest pastor ever selected to serve in that position. Reverend Warnock believes his service does not stop at the church door, and has been an advocate to expand health care coverage and to ensure hardworking Georgians can make a living wage. As Senator, Reverend Warnock will bring to Washington the concerns of struggling Georgia families who wonder why no one is looking out for them, and focus on fighting for quality, affordable health care, for the dignity of working people who are paid too little as our government works more for Wall Street, and to make sure every voice is heard.
