Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley Endorses Reverend Raphael Warnock for U.S. Senate

Progressive icon and champion for working people backs Warnock’s bid for the Senate, as the Campaign continues consolidating support across Georgia and nationally

Atlanta, GA – Today, Massachusetts Representative Ayanna Pressley announced her endorsement of Reverend Raphael Warnock, who is running to represent all Georgians in the U.S. Senate. Her support comes on the heels of endorsements from five sitting United States Senators and former 2020 Democratic presidential candidates. In her endorsement, Pressley pointed to Reverend Warnock’s focus on the hardworking families of Georgia.

Pressley, who represents Massachusetts’ 7th Congressional District, was elected in 2018 and became the first Black woman to represent the Commonwealth at the federal level. Since entering the halls of Congress, she has led on a range of issues that are central to Warnock’s campaign, including criminal justice reform, addressing disparities in health care systems, and protecting voting rights.

“As a Senior Pastor for fourteen years, Rev. Warnock is committed to serving not only the faith community, but every community in Georgia,” said Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley. “Rev. Warnock has seen firsthand the challenges Georgians face. He is a passionate advocate for increasing access to healthcare and education, ensuring workers are paid a living wage, and making sure that the voices of everyday Georgians echo in the halls of the U.S. Senate. I am proud to endorse Rev. Warnock’s campaign, and look forward to his leadership in the Senate.”

“Congresswoman Pressley is a bold visionary who has held this administration accountable and has fought for justice her entire career,” said Reverend Warnock. “I am humbled to have her support in this movement, and I look forward to working with her in Congress to deliver equality and justice on behalf of millions of working Americans.”

Warnock launched his campaign for the U.S. Senate in January 2020, and independent analysts at Cook Political immediately moved the race to one of the most competitive in the nation. Reverend Warnock outraised every candidate – Democrat and Republican – for the special election in the first fundraising quarter this year. He’s also earned support from leaders across the state including Stacey Abrams, Congressmen John Lewis, Sanford Bishop, Hank Johnson and David Scott, Ambassador Andrew Young, Jason Carter and countless local officials. In addition to robust local support, he is backed by groups such as Planned Parenthood, End Citizens United, Democracy for America, the Congressional Black Caucus as well as multiple United States Senators, including Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris, Kirsten Gillibrand, Cory Booker, and Michael Bennet.

About Reverend Warnock

Reverend Raphael Warnock grew up in Kayton Homes public housing in Savannah. Fourteen years ago, he was chosen to serve as Senior Pastor at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, the former pulpit of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He is only the fifth Senior Pastor in the history of the church and the youngest pastor ever selected to serve in that position. Reverend Warnock believes his service does not stop at the church door, and has been an advocate to expand health care coverage and to ensure hardworking Georgians can make a living wage. As Senator, Reverend Warnock will bring to Washington the concerns of struggling Georgia families who wonder why no one is looking out for them, and focus on fighting for quality, affordable health care, for the dignity of working people who are paid too little as our government works more for Wall Street, and to make sure every voice is heard.
