Five Former Presidential Candidates Endorse Reverend Raphael Warnock for U.S. Senate

As the Warnock Campaign continues consolidating support across Georgia, influential national leaders back Reverend Warnock’s movement

Atlanta, GA – Today, the Warnock for Georgia Senate campaign announced a series of endorsements from five sitting United States Senators, who were also presidential candidates for the 2020 Democratic nomination. Their support highlights the growing momentum for Reverend Raphael Warnock’s U.S. Senate campaign and follows last week’s endorsements from 25 state legislators and five current and former Atlanta City Council Presidents.

The members backing Reverend Warnock’s candidacy are Senators Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris, Cory Booker, Kirsten Gillibrand and Michael Bennet. Together, the Senators represent over 80 million Americans and have championed issues that are central to Reverend Warnock’s campaign to represent all Georgians in the U.S. Senate, such as equality, criminal justice reform, health care and reproductive justice, fair wages and protections for working people, and rooting out corruption.

“As a champion for Medicaid expansion and fair wages, Rev. Raphael Warnock has stood up for working families for years. I’m proud to endorse him because I know with him in the Senate, Georgians will have a champion with the courage and conviction to put working families first.” said Elizabeth Warren, Massachusetts.

“Georgia families deserve someone in the U.S. Senate who will expand their access to health care, fight for working people, and combat voter suppression,” said Kamala Harris, California. “Raphael speaks truth to power about our country’s dark history of discrimination and I’m proud to endorse him in this campaign.”

“In this moral moment, we need moral leaders like Reverend Warnock in the Senate to help heal our nation and unite us in love. With a servant’s heart, he has spent his life fighting for the good of all people. I look forward to calling him my colleague in the U.S. Senate.” said Cory Booker, New Jersey.

“The call to public service is powerful and Reverend Warnock has answered it time and time again. Raphael is a pastor, community leader, and civil rights advocate who tells his own story beautifully and gives us hope for a more inclusive America. I’m excited that he’s ready to take up the fight to flip the Senate and end voter suppression so that everyone’s voices are heard.” said Kirsten Gillibrand, New York.

“In times like these, when our country is reeling from centuries of systemic oppression and racism, we need Reverend Warnock’s compassionate, moral leadership in the Senate more than ever,” said Michael Bennet, Colorado. “One of the best ways to achieve real change is to shift power in Washington toward justice. I’m honored to support Reverend Warnock’s fight for justice in his campaign for the United States Senate.”

“Senators Warren, Harris, Booker, Gillibrand and Bennet have been leaders for the American people for years and I am humbled to have their support in this movement,” said Reverend Warnock. “I look forward to joining them in the United States Senate and continuing my service to Georgians and working people.”

Warnock launched his campaign for the U.S. Senate in January 2020, and independent analysts at Cook Political immediately moved the race to one of the most competitive in the nation. Reverend Warnock outraised every candidate – Democrat and Republican – for the special election in the first fundraising quarter this year. He’s also earned support from leaders across the state including Stacey Abrams, Congressmen John Lewis, Sanford Bishop, Hank Johnson and David Scott, Ambassador Andrew Young, Jason Carter and countless local officials as well as Planned Parenthood, End Citizens United, Democracy for America, the Congressional Black Caucus and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.

About Reverend Warnock

Reverend Raphael Warnock grew up in Kayton Homes public housing in Savannah. Fourteen years ago, he was chosen to serve as Senior Pastor at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, the former pulpit of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He is only the fifth Senior Pastor in the history of the church and the youngest pastor ever selected to serve in that position. Reverend Warnock believes his service does not stop at the church door, and has been an advocate to expand health care coverage and to ensure hardworking Georgians can make a living wage. As Senator, Reverend Warnock will bring to Washington the concerns of struggling Georgia families who wonder why no one is looking out for them, and focus on fighting for quality, affordable health care, for the dignity of working people who are paid too little as our government works more for Wall Street, and to make sure every voice is heard.
