As the Warnock campaign continues consolidating support, more Georgia and national leaders are backing the Reverend’s movement
Atlanta, GA – Today, former United States Attorney General and current Chair of the National Redistricting Action Fund Eric Holder, Jr. announced his endorsement of Reverend Raphael Warnock, who is running to represent all Georgians in the U.S. Senate. This announcement comes on the heels of endorsements from Georgia Congresswoman Lucy McBath and the Human Rights Campaign. Holder’s backing adds to Warnock’s support from state and national figures, including Stacey Abrams, every Democratic member of Georgia’s Congressional delegation, the majority of the U.S. Senate Democratic Caucus, and the majority of the State House and Senate’s Democratic members. In his endorsement, Holder pointed to Warnock’s advocacy fighting for social justice and voting rights.
Under President Barack Obama, Holder served as the 82nd Attorney General of the United States. Prior to his historic tenure leading the Department of Justice, he was also the U.S Attorney for the District of Columbia from 1993 – 1997 and a Superior Court judge from 1988 – 1993. He also served as Deputy Attorney General under President Bill Clinton before making history as the first African-American Attorney General in the Obama Administration. He currently chairs the National Redistricting Action Fund.
“As Georgia and the nation grapple with how to ensure justice and equality for all Americans, it’s more important than ever that we have political leaders with the integrity and compassion of Reverend Warnock in the United States Senate,” said Eric H. Holder, Jr., the 82nd Attorney General of the United States. “Whether it’s expanding economic opportunity to everyone, protecting the right to vote, or bringing together a coalition of people willing to reform our broken criminal justice system, Reverend Warnock will be a senator who works on behalf of every Georgian. I’m proud to support his campaign and I hope Georgians will do everything in their power to make sure he is elected this fall. It’s time for those who care about the direction of Georgia and this nation to unite behind Rev. Warnock’s campaign.”
“Attorney General Holder has dedicated his life to ensuring justice exists for every American. I am honored to have earned his endorsement and I remain committed to carrying the fight for equal justice and fair representation for every Georgian forward to the U.S. Senate,” said Reverend Warnock.
Reverend Warnock launched his campaign for the U.S. Senate in January 2020, and independent analysts at Cook Political immediately moved the race to one of the most competitive in the nation. Warnock outraised every candidate – Democrat and Republican – for the special election in the first two fundraising quarters this year. He’s also earned support from leaders across the state including Stacey Abrams, the late John Lewis, Congresswoman Lucy McBath, Ambassador Andrew Young, Jon Ossoff, Teresa Tomlinson, Sarah Riggs Amico, the Georgia AFL-CIO and countless local officials. In addition to robust support from Georgians, he is backed by Planned Parenthood, End Citizens United, Human Rights Campaign, the Congressional Black Caucus PAC as well as Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn, Vice Presidential nominee Kamala Harris and over 30 United States Senators, including Elizabeth Warren, Kirsten Gillibrand, Sherrod Brown and Cory Booker.
About Reverend Warnock
Reverend Raphael Warnock grew up in Kayton Homes public housing in Savannah. Fourteen years ago, he was chosen to serve as Senior Pastor at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, the former pulpit of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He is only the fifth Senior Pastor in the history of the church and the youngest pastor ever selected to serve in that position. Reverend Warnock believes his service does not stop at the church door, and has been an advocate to expand health care coverage and to ensure hardworking Georgians can make a living wage. As Senator, Reverend Warnock will bring to Washington the concerns of struggling Georgia families who wonder why no one is looking out for them, and focus on fighting for quality, affordable health care, for the dignity of working people who are paid too little as our government works more for Wall Street, and to make sure every voice is heard.
