Independent Fact Checkers Say Loeffler Health Care ‘Plan’ Would Not Protect Coverage for 1.8 Million Georgians With Pre-Existing Conditions - Warnock for Georgia

Independent Fact Checkers Say Loeffler Health Care ‘Plan’ Would Not Protect Coverage for 1.8 Million Georgians With Pre-Existing Conditions

Atlanta, GA – This week, a new report from independent fact checkers ruled that unelected Senator Kelly Loeffler’s claim that she would ensure protections for pre-existing conditions was “false” and that her sham health care plan “would make adequate and affordable insurance less accessible for people with preexisting conditions.”

More than 1.8 million Georgians have pre-existing conditions and rely on protections in the Affordable Care Act for quality, affordable care. In the Senate, Loeffler has supported a lawsuit to overturn the ACA while joining Governor Kemp in Georgia to announce a plan that could rip health care away from 60,000 Georgians and impose unlawful, ineffective and backward work requirements on poor Georgians who want to receive Medicaid.

Senior Pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church and Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate Reverend Raphael Warnock has been a strong supporter of affordable, quality health care for all. Throughout his candidacy and pastorship, Warnock has called for an equitable health care system that will take care of the most vulnerable people in our communities.

“Kelly Loeffler can’t hide the truth from Georgians. Her plan would threaten the health care of hundreds of thousands of people in our state with pre-existing conditions,” said Warnock for Georgia spokesperson Terrence Clark. “Independent and nonpartisan fact checkers have exposed what her plan will really accomplish, which is to make it harder on working families and people with pre-existing conditions to get the health care they need. Georgia needs a leader like Reverend Warnock who will stand against the all-out GOP assault on health care and fight for Georgia communities.”

HERE’S WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING:

@sahilkapur, NBC National Political Reporter:  If ACA were axed, insurers could shut out sick people. This [plan] doesn’t come close to saying she’d cover them.

@StevenTDennis, Bloomberg Senate Reporter: Loeffler keeps saying her plan would protect people with pre-existing conditions, but she is the sole author of a bill explicitly allowing insurers to offer plans lasting up to 3 years that DON’T cover pre-existing conditions.

About Reverend Warnock

Reverend Raphael Warnock grew up in Kayton Homes public housing in Savannah. Fifteen years ago, he was chosen to serve as Senior Pastor at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, the former pulpit of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He is only the fifth Senior Pastor in the history of the church and the youngest pastor ever selected to serve in that position. Reverend Warnock believes his service does not stop at the church door, and has been an advocate to expand health care coverage and to ensure hardworking Georgians can make a living wage. As Senator, Reverend Warnock will bring to Washington the concerns of struggling Georgia families who wonder why no one is looking out for them, and focus on fighting for quality, affordable health care, for the dignity of working people who are paid too little as our government works more for Wall Street, and to make sure every voice is heard.
