Atlanta, GA — Reverend Warnock has been unequivocal in his support for Israel, has built strong interfaith relationships with the Georgia Jewish community, and will be an ally of Israel and Georgia’s Jewish community in the U.S. Senate – a record that nearly 200 rabbis and faith leaders wrote in support of last month.
Kelly Loeffler is trying to misrepresent Rev. Warnock’s views and his interfaith work because she has nothing good to say about her record. Here’s the truth:
A group of nearly 200 rabbis and faith leaders praised Reverend Warnock’s record, and spoke out against Loeffler’s misleading attacks.
- Nearly 200 faith leaders led by the Jewish Democratic Council of America wrote a letter that read: “As rabbis and religious leaders, we recognize and respect the devotion to his Christian faith that underlies Rev. Raphael Warnock’s strong support for Israel and his partnership with the Jewish people…Rev. Warnock recognizes that being a true friend also means being a truth-teller who does not shy away from hard conversations, and he has made no secret of his strong reservations and concerns over Israeli settlement expansion, which may impede prospects for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.” [Jewish Insider]
Reverend Warnock supports Israel as the United States’ strongest ally in the Middle East.
- Warnock wrote in an op-ed for the Jewish Insider: “I understand and recognize Israel’s unique historical importance as the greatest proponent of democracy in the Middle East and America’s most important partner in the region.”
- In the same op-ed, Warnock reiterated his commitment to work in the Senate to support Israel through continued military aid and working to ensure Iran does not obtain a nuclear weapon that would pose a threat to Israel.
Reverend Warnock has repeatedly spoken out against anti-Semitism, calling it a form of bigotry and drawing on the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to condemn it.
- “Warnock quoted the late Rabbi Joshua Heschel after he marched with King from Selma to Montgomery, Ala. ‘It felt like my feet were praying.’ Speaking to the participants, Warnock stressed the importance of condemning ‘bigotry wherever we see it, whether it’s racism or anti-Semitism. We lose some of our credibility when we don’t.’” [Atlanta Jewish Times]
Prominent Jewish community leaders have confirmed Reverend Warnock’s support for Georgia’s Jewish community.
- Michael Rosenzweig, the head of the Georgia chapter of the Jewish Democratic Council of America: “What the Loeffler campaign is trying to do with this is divide the Black community from the Jewish community and they’re trying to divide the Jewish community internally. It’s very clear what they’re doing here, and honestly it’s heinous…This is an effort to use Israel as a wedge issue, but the most important thing for Israel’s security is its relationship with the United States and that it be bipartisan.” [Atlanta Journal-Constitution]
- Valerie Habif and Joanie Shubin, founders of the Jewish Democratic Women’s Salon in Atlanta: “He has been a friend to Atlanta’s Jewish community throughout his tenure at the Ebenezer Baptist Church and a regular speaker and visitor to Atlanta’s synagogues. His support for Israel is unequivocal.” [Jewish Telegraphic Agency]
