Atlanta Journal-Constitution: “Neither Warnock Nor Ebenezer Were Involved In The Building’s Operations”

Atlanta Journal-Constitution: “Columbia Residential said no tenants had been evicted for non-payment of rent since June 2020, several months before a federal moratorium took effect”

Savannah GA — Herschel Walker and his allies are once again misrepresenting Reverend Warnock’s record and going even further — attacking the spiritual home of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

HERE ARE THE FACTS:

  • Independent reporting from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution affirms that Reverend Warnock has no responsibility for day-to-day management activities of Columbia Tower at MLK Village apartment building.
  • “The eviction actions were filed by Columbia Residential, which…manages the day-to-day operations.” [AJC, 10/13/2022
  • “… neither Warnock nor Ebenezer were involved in the building’s operations.” [AJC, 10/13/2022
  • “‘As the building’s sole management agent, Columbia Residential handles all aspects of property management at MLK Village; the building’s owners bear no responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the property, nor do they exercise any oversight of the building tenants’ rental transactions [.]’” [AJC, 10/13/2022
  • Independent reports confirm that no tenants had been evicted for non-paying of rent “since June 2020, several months before a federal moratorium took effect.”
  • “…a spokesperson for Columbia Residential said no tenants had been evicted for non-payment of rent since June 2020, several months before a federal moratorium took effect. And they said neither Warnock nor Ebenezer were involved in the building’s operations.” [AJC, 10/13/2022
  • Reverend Warnock supported efforts to extend the eviction moratorium and is fighting for affordable housing in the U.S. Senate.
  • Reverend Warnock has a track record in the Senate of working to ensure that Georgians could remain in their homes at the height of the pandemic–including supporting and repeatedly calling for extensions of the CDC’s eviction moratorium.
  • Reverend Warnock fought for the creation of the Homeowner Assistance Fund at the Treasury, which is designed to help homeowners behind on their mortgage and utility payments avoid foreclosure and eviction.
