Flashback: Kelly Loeffler Downplayed Need for Additional Unemployment Aid And Called Enhanced Unemployment Relief “Counterproductive,” Then Let Nearly Nine Months Go By Without Relief For Struggling Georgians

Atlanta, GA – Today, Senior Pastor at Ebenezer Baptist Church and U.S. Senate candidate Reverend Raphael Warnock issued a statement reiterating his call for Kelly Loeffler to move quickly to help pass legislation in Congress authorizing $2000 direct relief payments to struggling Georgians–a move endorsed by President Trump, but which House Republicans blocked and Kelly Loeffler has not clearly stated she would support

“It is unconscionable that after nine months of inaction from Kelly Loeffler, unemployment relief for contract workers, freelancers and those who are self-employed has expired because Congress failed to do its job,” said Reverend Warnock. “Instead of campaigning, Senator Loeffler needs to return to Washington and do what’s best for Georgians by extending unemployment aid and helping pass $2000 direct payments.”
