Atlanta, GA – Senior Pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church and Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate Reverend Raphael Warnock today issued the following statement as oral arguments in California v. Texas are heard before the United States Supreme Court:
“Just last month, Kelly Loeffler voted in support of the Trump lawsuit to destroy the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and take away protections for 1.8 million Georgians with pre-existing conditions in the middle of a pandemic. Loeffler’s “100%” blind allegiance to partisan politics is dangerous and her indifference towards the health and well-being of Georgia’s working families continues to pose a threat to communities across our state.
“Georgians understand that health care access is on the ballot in the January 5 runoff election, especially as more rural hospitals close their doors for good and an unfettered global pandemic continues to take the lives of hundreds of thousands of Americans. We cannot afford another Georgia senator in Washington who makes good on promises to create more devastation and disparity back home.
“The hard-working families in this state deserve a Senator who prioritizes positive health outcomes for all Georgians. As the next Senator of Georgia, I will continue to fight to close the health care gap in all of our communities and ensure every Georgian has access to the health care they deserve.”
Unlike his opponent, Senior Pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church and U.S. Senate candidate Reverend Raphael Warnock has been a strong advocate of expanding access to quality, affordable care for all Georgians. At a critical moment for Georgia, last month Loeffler followed through on her pledge to stand with Trump 100%, even at the cost of health care protections for the people she is supposed to represent.
Today, the Supreme Court will hear the Loeffler-backed Trump lawsuit to destroy the Affordable Care Act, dismantling protections for pre-existing conditions along with every other protection of the ACA in the middle of a pandemic. If Loeffler gets her way and the Trump lawsuit is successful in court, hundreds of thousands of Georgians will lose their health care, protections will be ripped away for the 1.8 million Georgians with pre-existing conditions, and insurance companies will again be able to treat being a woman as a pre-existing condition, charging more for Georgia women’s health and maternity care.
