What Georgians Are Seeing: Walker “Skirting A Full Commitment to Debate”

Fox 5: “Herschel Walker, once again, skirting a full commitment to debate ahead of the November elections.”

Atlanta, GA – Despite Herschel Walker’s repeated statements that he would debate Reverend Warnock “any day of the week,” Walker reneged on that commitment this week, continuing his refusal to debate.

Here’s more on what Georgians are seeing and hearing:

Fox 5’s Tom Haynes: “Herschel Walker, once again, skirting a full commitment to debate:

  • Tom Haynes: “Herschel Walker, once again, skirting a full commitment to debate ahead of the November elections. Fox 5 asked Walker just yesterday if he’d participate in an October debate against Democrat Senator Raphael Warnock, he told us pending many negotiations, he’d be ready to debate on October the 16th. Today his press team released a statement saying that Walker does not quote ‘buy into past political debate traditions,’ he’s demanding a fair and unbiased moderator, but he did not say for sure in October he’d be there.”

Fox 5’s Ron Gant: “We have yet to get a firm commitment from Herschel Walker on whether he’ll debate Senator Raphael Warnock in October”

Fox 5’s Claire Simms: “Walker has been very vocal in interviews, saying he will debate Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock…but he has yet to agree to any.”

  • Claire Simms: “Walker has been very vocal in interviews, saying he will debate Senator Reverend Raphael Warnrock, even before he won the Republican primary, but he has yet to agree to any…Walker also echoed what has become a common refrain in recent interviews, saying he would debate his opponent ‘whenever.’ Senator Warnock has committed to three debates ahead of the general election in Atlanta, Macon, and Savannah but when I asked Walker if he would take part in the Atlanta Press Club Debate, scheduled for October, 16th. His answer was not a matter of fact one.”

NBC 38’s Cheryl Renee: “Republican Herschel Walker has yet to officially give the greenlight to debating his opponent”

  • Cheryl Renee: “Republican Herschel Walker has yet to officially give the greenlight to debating his opponent democratic incumbent Raphael Warnock on October 16th. During a campaign stop in Athens he said he was quote ‘ready to debate,’ but he has not committed to a date. Senator Warnock announced in late May he would participate in three debates across the state.”

Reverend Warnock has moved forward with scheduling three debates:

  • Reverend Warnock has accepted the invitation of the Atlanta Press Club to debate on Sunday, October 16, 2022. The Atlanta Press Club regularly hosts debates in Georgia. The debate will be broadcast statewide and available for streaming.
  • Reverend Warnock has accepted the invitation of his hometown station WTOC Savannah. The debate will be broadcast statewide and available for streaming. The date for this debate is to be determined.
  • Reverend Warnock has also accepted the invitation of the Mercer University Center for Collaborative Journalism and the newsrooms of 13WMAZ, 11Alive WXIA, Georgia Public Broadcasting, The Macon Telegraph, WMUB and The Macon Newsroom to debate on the campus of Mercer University in Macon. The debate will be broadcast statewide and available for streaming. The date for this debate is to be determined.
